St Andrews makes an excellent base for a golfing holiday. As well as being home to the world famous Old Course, St Andrews is within easy reach of several other world class championship golf courses, such as Gleaneagles, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and many more.
Carnoustie Golf Links is approx 25 miles from the town of St Andrews. This is a 45 min drive on average, depending on the time of day and traffic. The route passes through Dundee so it pays to use a local guide who knows which roads to avoid during rush hour. The journey crosses the Tay Road Bridge, with excellent views over the ‘silvery’ River Tay and the infamouse Tay Rail Bridge.

About Carnoustie Golf Links
Carnoustie Golf Links comprises 3 top quality golf courses. The Carnoustie Championship Course, The Carnoustie Burnside Course, and The Carnoustie Buddon Course. The Championship Course has hosted eight Open Championships as well as several Women’s and Seniors’ Opens. It is one of only 3 courses used for the annual Dunhill Cup. Due to these credentials, the Championship Course is by far the most popular for visiting golfers to play on, and it is advisable to book in advance.

The Burnside Course is full of character and a strong test of your golfing skills. Narrow fairways are lined with heather and gorse and feature many challenging pot bunkers. As the name suggests, the Barry Burn meanders through several holes. It’s a tight course, made extra challenging when the wind comes in from the North Sea. Classic Scottish Links!
The Carnoustie Buddon Course is slightly newer and was designed by Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss. The course opened in 1981 and has an underlying military theme to the names of the holes – with the course being constructed on former Ministry of Defence land. Most of the course has a links layout, which is contrasted with the tree-lined holes in the middle of the round. Ceratinly worth playing to get a full taste of what the Carnoustie landscape has to offer.
