Gleaneagles is a world renowned golfing resort in the heart of Scotland. Set around the grounds of the luxurious Gleneagles Hotel are 3 championship golf courses and one 9 hole course. Gleneagles is a destination where you could easily spend a week or more and still not discover all it has to offer. From the hotel and spa, with its many bars and restaurants – to a huge range of outdoor pursuits such as cycling, hillwalking, horse riding, off-road driving, and many family activities. There truly is something for everyone.

Surrounded by stunning highland views of the Ochil Hills and the peaks of Ben Vorlich and the Trossachs, Gleneagles offers a quintessential Scottish golfing experience for those who fancy a break from the classic links courses.

The golf courses at Gleneagles

The King’s Course at Gleneagles is a championship golf course designed by James Braid and opened in 1919. Although it has never hosted the British Open, it has hosted the Senior Open and the Scottish Open. The King’s Course is extremely highly regarded among pros and amateurs alike. The rolling mountainous fairways are flanked by heather, gorse and mature trees.

The Queen’s Course is shorter and more accessible than the King’s Course. The Queen’s course originally opened 2 years before the King’s Course – in 1917. It was also designed by James Braid. Although the Queen’s Course is not as challenging as the King’s that is not to say it is easy or boring. In fact, a round on the Queen’s Course is a very beautiful experience full of theatre and exquisitely crafted moments.

The PGA Centenary Course is a modern addition to the Gleneagles estate, opening in 1993 (and formerly called the Monarch Course). It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Ron Kirby and hosted the Ryder Cup in 2014. The PGA Centenary Course is the longest inland course in Scotland, measuring nearly 7,300 yards from the back tees. However, there are five tee boxes to choose from, so the length of the course need not impair enjoyment for those of us who don’t drive like a pro.

In summary, Gleneagles offers a very different golfing experience to the classic coastal links courses of Scotland. The hilly moorland terrain of Gleneagles contrasts with the flat sandy coastal experience of links courses such as St Andrews and Kingsbarns. The more modern parkland style of Gleneagles is not to everyone’s taste but this is more than made up for by the stunning views of the Perthshire highlands.
